Is it true that resistance training exercises is best for bigger exercises? Although you may have been told that lifting heavy weight is the best approach you will be surprised.
In muscle magazines and in gyms everywhere the common approach to building muscle is to lift heavy loads. It is true that this is a very effective method but there are other approaches.
One technique that is gaining popularity is the use of elastic bands or resistance bands to gain muscle. Football player Terrell Owens is a huge fan of this technique and incorporates it in his training. Although it may not seem as challenging to use bands do not let that fool you.
The goal of elastic/ resistance bands is to keep the muscle in constant tension. As opposed to using weights where they feel less challenging when you reach peak contraction of the muscle, resistance bands keep the muscle tense even during peak contraction.
For a good biceps workout using these bands simply find one that has resistance according to your needs. To build bigger biceps use tubing that is thicker and offers more resistance.
One exercise you can perform is bicep curls.
Stand with feet shoulder width apart and step on the band.
grab each handle with each hand and keep your hands at your sides.
Slowly curl your hands as you would in a barbell or dumbbell biceps curl.
Only bend your elbows and do not swing your arms. Use a controlled motion on the way up and on the way down.
You can perform this exercise one arm at a time or both at the same time. I recommend using a slow motion for better results. You can do either a two seconds up and one second down motion or simply very slow for maximum effect.
This is an excellent exercise to perform at the end of a biceps routine using weights. Performing these at the end of your workout will challenge your biceps and you will feel that burn that triggers muscle growth.
Feel free to experiment with different tubing. Some workouts you can go very light for high repetitions while other days you can go with thick tubing and perform lower repetitions. By including resistance bands as a new element to your biceps workouts you will trick your body thus achieving awesome results. Try it and I am sure you will love the results. Who knows you may end up looking better than Terrel Owens.
